Marrinan History (con't)

He and Mary appear as husband and wife in the "Dayton Directory for 1898-99." Their home was listed on West Monument Avenue ("John" apparently was very popular ...Laura and another John Marrinan, laborer, lived on East Bacon Street at the same time.).

Mary M. Marrinan (She had seven younger siblings-Catherine, Ellen, Patrick, John, Tim, Mike and Margaret McMahon)unfortunately died at the age of 45 years in St. Elizabeth Hospital. The house was West First Street, and she was the mother of three children-Edward Leo, Beatrice and Donald John.

Her obituary mentions funeral services at the residence and the Church of the Resurrection. Her husband continued to be employed as a "molder" at the Malleable Iron Works, and besides working with Mary's brother-in-law, Michael Brown (He married Catherine.), his total tenure at the company was forty years.

John J. Marrinan, similar in appearance and stature to "Leo," stayed living in the same home in west Dayton after the death of Mary. He dies just short of the age of 71 years. He was ill for almost two years prior to passing, and besides the two remaining sons ("Leo" plus Catherine and Michael Brown's son-Joseph happen to be working for the B&O Railroad.) and three grandchildren (A fourth grandchild, Eileen, died shortly after her birth.), there was still a brother in Ireland at the time.

His obituary lists only one connection to the community beyond the Church of the Resurrection, and that was membership in the Independent Order of Foresters. He is buried with his wife at Calvary Cemetery.
